Nogunri Peace Museum designed by METAA is located in Yeongdong-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea. It covers an area of 1892sqm and cost 2.7 billion KW. It is built to remember the Nogunricase that US army massacred South Korean civilians in early Korean War. Cannot find the truth of the case, so the museum is built to against the official history and recall the fragmented memory of people, trying to intervene in some memories that are going to be institutionalized. It was 26 to 29 of July in 1950.150 people were dead, 13 people were missed and 55 people were injured and got a disability. However, that is incorrect number. Half of a century passed.Nobody talked about responsibility. Cannot find the truth and still some parts of the Nogunri case are covered to be told as a history. A memory against the official history is called “anti-memory”. Anti-memory is activities of every single persons and fragmented memory, and it is a memory trying to intervene in some memories that are going to be institutionalized. It is a memory that is trying to reveal an aura of an official memory by rashly built monument andmemorial symbols. The spatiality that they felt at the moment is more important than their sight when they experiencethese kinds of memory. However Nogunri’s memory is still an active-history tous. Therefore it is a part of process of communal memory to construct our identity. In addition, a museum talking about “history” or “peace” cannot avoid starting with emptiness in this place. An architecture start with emptiness is an architecture that is watching the process that is going to communal memory.
