barcelona forum building designed by the swiss architects jacques herzog and pierre de meuron is an architectural symbol of this new urban district of barcelona. the unusual shapes, geometry and materials used, have an intriguing and inviting effect. the triangular outline of forum building, each side roughly 180m in length, continues the axes of the avenida diagonal and the rambla de prim. it seems to float above the explanada del forum, forming a large covered space for open-air activities. recognising the need of outdoor space for social encounter and people interacting, not only to promote and structure the aspect of city life but also optimize function, flexibility and spatial relations, the architects decided on a horizontal arrangement of space, accommodating an auditorium, exhibition areas, small offices and a restaurant with access to the roof terrace. the upper storey of the building providing about 8,000 square meters of exhibition space is wrapped in an ultramarine-blue fa?ade; while the underside of the first floor of the large blue building is clad with stainless steel panels, which reflect the surface of water.
