the barcelona museum for contemporary art, located in the historical center of barcelona and designed by architectural master richard meier is one of the achievements of barcelona in the latest twenty-year urban renewal and historic preservation. the fa?ade in southern entrance is designed differently from the main architecture to break the functional and structural limit, freely weaving, to build the effect of concave and convex surface. to build the stairs inside north curved surfaces and leave a gap for necessary day lights in stairs and enriching the fa?ade. the southeast tower changed like amoebax and broke the single architectural line. the design solved the problem how to create the new modern space in the traditional complicated urban tissue. meanwhile innovate boldly to connect the big new architecture and fragmentary small-scale historical space in the basis of environment. the museum establishes a dialogue between the indoor modern artwork and outdoor historical space. follow and expand the complicated characters of the old city’s road network in the architecture, especially to connect the main entrance, rotunda, back garden and the big front square by the wandering footpath. followed the design of frank museum, integrate the pursuit of space and nature light.
