项目概况:
designed by richard meier-an important representative of white architecture, the ara pacis museum, located in the west of augusto imperatore plaza, is the first museum with certain theme and fully showing the modern architecture art since 1930s, mainly exhibiting the altar of augustan peace and other relics discovered nearby the mausoleum. the simple and concise design adopts the materials of concrete, glass and the local cream roman limestone. the museum is set based on the ancient roman architecture’s scale and ratio not only to further understand them but also to enlarger the space. main body has the height of 13.5 meter and 50-meter-length glass walls, leading the visitors into the main exhibition hall through the entrance defined by four spindly concrete columns of white marble lime with 8.5 meters height. the design adopts the simple structure to connect and blend the inside/outside space and volume together; the exhibition hall use the natural light to reduce the false shadow brought by artificial lighting. the construction of this modern museum in ancient roman city is controversial, while meier adopts the unique architectural style to perfectly fuse the architecture and background, enhancing people’s understanding to rome and providing a new shelter in ancient ruins in rome.
