parco della musica auditorium, located in the northeast of roman and covered an area of 55000m2, was designed by italian architect and winner of 1998 pritzker prize renzo piano; the fresh beetle-like concert halls origins from italian ancient string instruments. it was made of three large concert halls: sala petrassi, in memory of goffredo petrassi, about 700 seats; sala sinopoli, in memory of giuseppe sinopoli, about 1200 seats; and sala santa cecilia, about 2800 seats. a fourth "concert hall", called cavea with 3000 seats, is the open air theater surrounded by the other three concert halls, recalling ancient greek and roman theaters. they are structurally separated to ensure soundproofing, though joined at the base by a continuous lobby. the fan-shaped layout is formed around the central piazza. use the wood structure and lead plate in the roof, providing the effective heat insulation effect and lowering the maintenance cost.
