项目概况:
pontificial lateran university library extension, located in the southeast of roma and designed by king roselli architetti, cost totally about 8 million euro; it is the extension of the old library built in 1930 and are now concentrated in a single volume for almost 120 readers with access to about 70,000 volumes and 750 publications. to deal with the limited and strict site conditions, the designers design the brick structure to cover the seven floor buildings, misaligned and displaced, like a stack of books placed casually. the exterior brown cuboid bricks and the concise geometric lines echo the existing building, and the irregular horizontal volumes in the upside of the base are divided by the deeply embedded band-shape windows, floating in the air, which break the strict geometry shape and convey the strong modern sense. the"e" shaped appearance closely connects with the "u" shaped spiral slope, which make an obvious light and dark contrast of light and shadow. the reading rooms are arranged on the sloping ramp of "u" shape in each floor, and the books are placed on the missing part of "u" shape. the reading rooms are skillfully blended into the slopes surrounded the building and the readers can walk continuously and freely through each reading room. the library was bathed in the sunlight through the windows on the top of the atrium. use glass as the boards of the slope to highlight the stacks of publications, which make the stacks like parts of continuous construction components afar. the main assembly hall was restored to conform to modern safety and comfort standards. the grille wooden walls on both sides can not only control the light to enter but also create the good sound-absorption effect.
