GermanChancellery (Bundeskanzleramt) situated around the Spree River and designed byarchitect Axel Schultes and Charlotte Frank between 1982 and 1999 is one of thespectacular buildings built to house government institutions following therelocation of the German Capital from Bonn to Berlin.TheH-shaped building is spectacular and solemn, concise and solid. It stands 9stories high in the center (the executive building) and the two wings of each 5stories high. The 18-meter-high semi-circular shape of the glass façadehighlights the building with a nickname of “Federal Washing Machine”. The gentle stone columns as the façadestructure pass on the relation between inside and outside.Twowings house the offices of employees. Tensioned awning is situated over theentrance. It has been designed to accentuate transparency, space and simplicitywith impressive view in the balconies. In the Reception Hall courtyard standsthe ironed sculpture of “Berlin” by Spanish artist Eduardo Chillida.
