项目概况:

Synagogue LJG bysearch in 2005-2010, is located in Amsterdam, the Netherlands and covers anarea of 3400 sqm. The simple volume, with the capacity of 800 seats, has been awarded Gold Architecture Prize Amsterdam, AAP in 2011. Riddled with symbolism of the Jewish faith, the neutral rectilinear volume generates asimplistic outwards aesthetic which conceals the building’s complex narrative and inverted sense of spatiality. Drawing from both traditional and modernconcepts, the building seeks to create an environment that abstractly emulatesthe ideals and beliefs at the center of Judaism. Matzo-liketiles create an abstract pattern using the star of David motif small tiles onthe exterior surface emboss the building with a pattern of the star of David, its subtle matzo-like effect made visible by light and shadow. Heavy and solidon the landscape, the structure is defined by two opposing menorah-shapedopenings that link east and west, marking the direction towards Jerusalem. Drawingnatural light inwards, the large, symbolically-charged forms impact thearrangement of space within the ceremonial hall, whose central axis and seatingruns between the vast windows. Four balconies extend from the negative surfacesbetween each of the seven branches, further defining and highlighting the importanceof the object. A mixed program of worship, community, classroom and officespaces consume the four-storey structure, which utilizes both new materials andones salvaged from the synagogue that previously housed the liberalcongregation.
