Montjuic Communications Tower

the montjuic communications tower is a telecommunication tower in the montjuic neighborhood of barcelona, standing obviously in the open area outside olympics stadium and soaring into the air. the elegant torch-shaped sculpture, designed by spanish architect santiago calatrava, is barcelona landmark. the 136 m tower is made of reinforced concrete structure; the vast volume and the surprising height are supported by three points in the base of the tower; the surface is covered with white mosaic technique created from broken tile shards. under the shining mediterranean sunshine and the blue sky, it looks more tall and straight. the white tower was built to transmit television coverage of the 1992 summer olympics games in barcelona. now it belongs to for telefónica and alsot works also as a giant sundial, which uses the europa square to indicate the hour. near the sundial neatly stand the chocolate bar-like towers.
